We're continuing to introduce the team behind our joint project with the Bulat Utemuratov Foundation in Kazakhstan — a project focused on developing and piloting a Supported Employment model for young people with autism spectrum disorder (ASD).
Today we'd like to introduce Åsa Hansdotter, Chairman of the Board of Raoul Foundation — who has been closely involved in developing our partnership with the Bulat Utemuratov Foundation from the very beginning.
Åsa is one of the driving forces behind RAOUL’s work. She strongly believes in Supported Employment as a practical, evidence-based approach and in the potential of its wider adoption to create more inclusive labour markets. This is why she stays closely involved in RAOUL’s international partnerships, taking time to meet partners, understand local contexts and see our work together develop in practice.
Earlier this year, she travelled to Astana to spend time with the team of the Bulat Utemuratov Foundation and see our joint work firsthand. During her visit, Åsa visited Asyl Miras, met with the Foundation's leadership and learned more about the support system that has been built for people with ASD across Kazakhstan.
“This visit gave me the opportunity to see firsthand why this partnership has such strong potential. The experience, infrastructure and commitment already in place in Kazakhstan create a solid foundation for developing Supported Employment further. Creating real employment opportunities for young people with autism is an important objective, and we genuinely value our collaboration with the Bulat Utemuratov Foundation. ” — Åsa Hansdotter, Chairman of the Board, Raoul Foundation.
In November, Åsa is planning to return to Kazakhstan as the project moves further into implementation. This time, the focus will be on looking at what we have built together, learning from the first results and shaping the next stage of the partnership.
Alongside her work as a business lawyer, Åsa has been involved in social initiatives and Supported Employment since 2011, working with partners and experts across the CIS region. In 2023, she co-founded Raoul Foundation in Sweden and became its Chairman of the Board.
Today she leads strategic partnerships, drives the Foundation's international agenda, and works to bring Supported Employment to new contexts and countries.
