Bulat Utemuratov Foundation Trains Supported Employment Specialists to Support Adults with Autism
From May to July 2026, the Bulat Utemuratov Foundation team took part in a blended training programme on Supported Employment for young adults with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). The training was delivered as part of a joint project with RAOUL charity foundation | Insamlingsstiftelsen Raoul and marked an important milestone in preparing a pilot project aimed at developing employment skills and supporting the labour market inclusion of people with autism in Kazakhstan.
For more than 12 years, “Autism. One World for All” programme has supported children and families across Kazakhstan. During this time, the Foundation has made a significant contribution to developing the country's support system for people with ASD — from early identification and intervention to professional training and the introduction of modern international practices. The Foundation has established 13 autism centres in 12 cities across Kazakhstan, providing support to approximately 25,000 children.
The next important step is to create opportunities for the professional development and employment of young adults with ASD.
The transition from education to independent working life is an important stage for any young person. However, for people with autism, the path to employment can often be more challenging due to additional barriers related to communication, adapting to new environments, and interacting with employers.
In many countries, these challenges are successfully addressed through Supported Employment. For more than 40 years, this approach has helped people with disabilities find jobs in the open labour market, successfully adapt to the workplace, and retain employment through individualised support at every stage of the employment process.
This is why the Bulat Utemuratov Foundation is investing in developing its own expertise in Supported Employment and training professionals capable of delivering this approach in line with international standards.
During the training, participants explored the key components of the Supported Employment model: identifying candidates' strengths and interests, engaging with employers, analysing job tasks, organising workplace support, and facilitating successful workplace adaptation. Particular attention was given to practical exercises, case studies and the discussion of real-life situations that may arise when supporting people with ASD in employment.
The training was delivered by RAOUL Foundation experts: Mikhail Krivonos, International Partner; EVGENIIA ALEKSANDROVA, Chief Operating Officer; and Elena Orlova, Supported Employment Expert.

Our goal is not only to ensure access to high-quality support during childhood, but also to create opportunities for a successful adult life. To achieve this, we invest in training specialists, study best international practices, and build partnerships with employers. Only a comprehensive approach allows people with ASD not just to get jobs, but to realize their potential and achieve greater independence," said Ainur Karbozova, CEO of the Bulat Utemuratov Foundation.

The training marked the first stage in preparation of the specialists. Over the coming months, participants will continue their learning through online sessions, practical assignments, and supervision with international experts, allowing them to apply and strengthen their knowledge in practice.
The development of Supported Employment expands the ecosystem of support for people with ASD that the Bulat Utemuratov Foundation has been consistently building for many years. The new initiative aims to ensure that young people with autism can not only access education and develop essential life skills, but also find their place in professional life, becoming more independent and actively involved members of society. ___________________________________
